THE PTA of an Arborfield primary school has shown just how much can be achieved by fundraising.
Members of the Parent and Teacher Association at The Coombes CofE Primary School raised £19,000 to enable the school to build an outdoor learning space where children can benefit from the natural environment while they work.
This month the new classroom was unveiled with much excitement as the school community took the opportunity to thank their hardworking PTA.
Head boy Mridul and head girl Elsie, said: “Our school has been lucky enough to be given a great opportunity to learn outside in a new outdoor classroom.
“This will help us in so many lessons, to have a good understanding from a different point of view.
“We can use the classroom in science, eco days and it will allow us to learn in different environments.
“Thank you to our PTA who has made this possible.”
The new learning space was officially opened by The Coombes’s chair of governors Louise Connelly, and by PTA chair Hannah Wilson.
Speeches from year 6 prefects, the school’s head boy and head girl, and headteacher Mr Henderson were followed by singing from the whole school community.
The project, costing £19,000 has been solely funded by PTA events including discos, an annual laser display, doughnut sales and Bags2School days.
Headteacher Mr Luke Henderson, said: “The new outdoor classroom in the woodland represents an exciting opportunity to enhance children’s learning, wellbeing, and connection with the natural environment.
“The space will be utilised for numerous school events, forest school, eco days and a range of scientific investigations and horticulture.
“As a school that values outdoor learning, exploration, and holistic development, this space will significantly enrich the educational experience for all pupils.”
