A Reading-based charity has been supporting vulnerable individuals and families for more than three decades by providing essential household items to people in need.
Christian Community Action Ministries (CCA) was founded in 1992 and offers practical support to those moving into temporary or permanent accommodation that is often completely unfurnished.
The charity works with people who may be arriving at properties without carpets, furniture, white goods or basic household essentials. CCA helps at this point by supplying items needed to create safe and liveable homes.
Based in Reading, the organisation serves the town and surrounding communities, working with individuals, families and partner agencies.
CCA collects donated furniture, bedding, kitchen equipment and other household goods from the local community. Items are repaired and reused where possible before being distributed to people in urgent need.
The charity says its work helps households rebuild their lives with dignity, while also reducing waste by keeping usable items out of landfill.
CCA also supports landlords by helping prepare properties for new tenants more quickly through the reuse of donated goods.
The organisation relies on public donations of good-quality items and volunteers to continue its work, which it says transforms unwanted household goods into “hope, homes and new beginnings”.
