READING ROCKETS completed a great double header weekend with progress to the National Cup quarter final stage after defeating Division Two outfit Greenwich Titans at The Valley on Sunday afternoon.
The difference in league was obvious from the very early stages as Rockets stroked five trebles, including four from Jermiah Jenkins as they raced to a 24-8 opening quarter from which they never looked back.
Mitch Clark hit Rockets’ first points before Head Coach Samit Nuruzade rested him as he gave the academy players Harry Milbank and Jacob Spurrier much needed game experience.
The second period was a tighter affair as Titans hit their first treble staying just 14 points adrift until the final minutes when Rockets pulled away with a Zack Powell treble, a Lewis Champion drive and a buzzer beating treble for Isaac Round. That gave Rockets a comfortable 46-21 advantage at the interval.
The third quarter saw a bevy of trebles from both teams, including three from Titans though Rockets replied with four of their own from Champion, Powell and a brace from Jenkins who was truly on fire from beyond the arc.
Elijah Maynard made a huge rejection and Chris Alexander took down an offensive rebound to score before spinning to score and drawing the foul as Rockets eased to a 71-39 lead going into the final period.
Reis Pinnock made his regular steal and score while Maynard and Powell worked hard to create openings for themselves and team mates with Powell making an outrageous block before a slam dunk.
Jenkins hit the final treble of his night making it six from 13, an awesome shooting display.
Titans fought throughout the game but Rockets class and experience showed through with Isaac Round having a purple patch of three consecutive trebles as they head to the quarter final scheduled to be away on Sunday, December 17.
In between, Rockets travel north to Newcastle on Saturday before another game at Worthing Thunder on Saturday, December 16.
