MEMBERS of a borough arts society will focus on the work and influence of garden designer Gertrude Jekyll.
Timothy Walker, lecturer, botanist, gardener and author will speak at Art Society Wokingham’s June meeting, on what promises to be a popular topic.
His illustrated talk will show the connections between gardening and art.
Member of the group Sue Bryant said: “Come and learn how to apply Gertrude Jekyll’s principles in designing a border, and discover how contemporary work of the likes of Turner, Monet, Rothko and Jackson Pollock evolved in parallel with ideas about what a garden should look like.”
Timothy Walker was awarded a Master of Horticulture by the Royal Horticultural Society of London.
He directed the Oxford Botanic Garden which was awarded a Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2009 for providing imaginative educational programmes for adults, students and children.
He has presented a 3-part series of films on the history of botany on BBC4 and since 2014 has been a tutor in Plant Biology at Somerville College, Oxford.
The Arts Society Wokingham meets monthly to hear expert lecturers share their specialist knowledge about the arts.
This month’s talk will take place at King’s Academy, Binfield, on Monday, June 16, at 7.30pm.
