A tradition that dates back centuries where Santa defeats an evil king was performed across Wokingham borough during the festive season.
The Yateley Mummers – better known as Yateley Morris Men – took their traditional Mummers play to pubs throughout Wokingham town centre before Christmas.
That was followed by a visit to The Queen’s Oak in Finchampstead on Boxing day.
The play is a traditional Christmas custom that dates back several centuries. It sees much silliness as Santa defeats an evil king.
The Queen’s Oak car park was packed with scores of people. which saw a guest appearance from Doctor Who and K9, alongside a display of morris dancing.
Tim Lloyd from the group told Wokingham Today: “Yateley Morris Men enjoyed another successful Boxing Day performance of Cotswold Morris dancing and their Mummers Play outside the Queen’s Oak pub in Finchampstead.
“A large crowd of onlookers regularly gathers for this annual free entertainment.
“Maybe next year we’ll get a beer?”
