Wokingham residents are to get a say on a transport plan that could include a trial of “school streets” in the borough.
Last week councillors voted to launch a consultation on draft plans to improve transport and reduce traffic on its roads.
The plan suggests that school streets – which typically involve stopping cars and other motor vehicles driving on streets leading to schools around the start and end of the day – could be trialled in some locations.
The plan wants to encourage children to take more active methods of getting to school.
It said: “To enable more walking, cycling and wheeling to school, and to promote increased physical activity in young people, we will develop a sustainable routes to school strategy.
“This will look at public transport and active travel access to schools and where targeted changes could improve access and safe routes for all that enable and support independent access to schools, shops and other amenities.
“We will also investigate locations to introduce school streets.”
Exact dates for the consultation have not been announced, but the council said it aims to run it during the coming months.
It hopes to have a final plan approved in the summer of 2023.
