Wokingham town council is inviting residents to view some of Wokingham’s history, and to contribute to a fun project for next month’s Heritage Day.
Wokingham town council is the custodian of many historical items; some of which date back as far as the 1700s.
It plans to apply for ‘museum accreditation’ which will help it to adopt best practices in caring for its collection, and be guided by the accreditation guidelines.
Part of being an accredited museum requires an organisation to increase the availability and access to its history and physical collection.
To support this, Wokingham town council hosts regular open days in its Diamond Jubilee room,
Visitors can pop in, have a chat, ask questions and if there’s other rooms you want to see, officers can show these if they are available.

On Monday, August 19, Wokingham town council plans to make a large mosaic of our Coat of Arms, which it plans to display at the Heritage Open Day on September 14.
The museum will be open on Monday, August 19, from 10am until 4pm to allow plenty of time for visitors to join the event.
A spokesperson said: “We’re planning this in the school holidays, but it’s not just for children, anyone can join in.
“The mosaic will be a wonderful form of art for all the community.
“We’d love you to come along and contribute.”
The chair of the civic committee, Cllr Keith Malvern added: “Wokingham’s Town Hall is full of treasures, and we love to share it with our residents and visitors.
“The next open day will be a great opportunity for our community to come together to help us with our mosaic project.
“Please pop in and help us to complete this, so we can have it ready to display at our Heritage open day in September.”
