A shock discovery was made alongside a busy road last weekend, as part of a regular litter-picking exercise.
Charvil’s litter picking efforts took a dramatic turn when Cllr Sam Akhtar and his partner, Tasmin Morgan, discovered a large knife on the central reservation of the A4.
While the origin of the knife remains unknown, its discovery highlights the potential dangers of littering.
Speaking to Wokingham Today, Cllr Akhtar said he discovered the knife on Sunday, and his instant reaction was one of shock.
He said: “Looking back, I am very concerned that if we’d not found the knife, it could have been discovered by school pupils on Monday.
“They could have innocently taken into the classrooms, wanting to show their latest find to their friends.”
The discovery of the nine-inch blade was reported to Thames Valley Police before being wrapped and safely disposed of by the couple, who are well-known for their dedication to keeping their local area clean.
The blade, which the couple believe could be a kitchen knife, could be related to another discovery the couple made on Sunday.
They found a number of used cooking pans that had been dumped within 200 yards of the knife.
They are now urging residents to dispose of their waste responsibly, in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Cllr Akhtar leads monthly litter picks across Thames Ward, and is currently looking for more volunteers.

He is also leading a wildlife walk on Saturday, July 6, from 10am until noon.
The guided walk will offer an exploration of the local biodiversity and conservation efforts in the area.
The meeting point is outside the main entrance to the Charvil Pigott Primary School, in Park Lane, Charvil.
