IT WAS all aboard the ark for South Berkshire Singers’ (SBS) summer concert.
The choir is one of the first organisations to enjoy using the recently completed Space For All venue at All Saints Church.
Joined by children from St Teresa’s Catholic Academy, their programme had a nautical theme with the title, All Aboard.
The adults were directed by Karen Phillips, with Simon Dinsdale playing piano and organ.
Krystle Hewitson led the children, who sang Captain Noah, Feel The Spirit, The Turtle Dove, and The Seal Lullaby.
They were accompanied by professional musicians: tenor David Walder, drums Alex Kershaw, bass guitar Lionel Browne, flute Krystle Hewitson, and clarinet Catherine Bickley.
Dave Donaldson, a member of SBS, said: “Both choirs performed separate items, but The cantata of Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo was sung by both groups together, and comprised about half of the concert.
“Everyone absolutely loved performing and we were all proud to play our part.
“It was great to sing with the children, and they seemed to enjoy performing with a big adult choir.
“We had a great audience, and a wonderful atmosphere.
“People have been telling us how much they enjoyed it, and asking us when the next concert will be.”
All Saints church has undergone a major internal overhaul over recent months as part of its Space For All project.
The building, which re-opened to the public only a month ago, continues in its primary function as a place of worship.
But by day it will also offer a large open café and meeting space, as well as a venue for charities and arts groups wishing to hold evening events.
The choirs’ concert attracted an audience of around 300 people, and raised more than £2,000 which will go towards the Space For All project.
South Berkshire Singers welcome enquiries from potential singers.
They meet at All Saints School, Wokingham every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.
