EBOS (East Berkshire Operatic Society) is getting ready to take audiences to heaven.
Its May musical, Sister Act, promises rousing songs, comedy, and a cracking good story.
Sister Act first appeared on screen in 1992 starring Whoopi Goldberg as lounge singer Deloris who is forced to take refuge in a convent, under cover, becoming Sister Mary Clarence.
A box-office smash, the film was adapted for the stage in 2006.
Audiences can see it performed at South Hill Park in May by EBOS musical theatre group.
The story follows Deloris, who is on the run from a mob after witnessing a murder ordered by her boyfriend.
Offered witness protection, she is welcomed into The Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith.
Inside the convent Deloris discovers a completely different world where she cannot smoke, drink, wear her own clothes or even visit the outside world.
Bored by the simple lifestyle Deloris decides to keep herself busy, and starts working with the convent choir – whose singers need more than a little work on their technique.
Deloris discovers she has a talent to teach the nuns to sing in time, and in key.
As they improve, and find a new joy in their music, the choir begins to hold fundraising concerts to fix its crumbling church building.
Its reputation (and notoriety) grows, and eventually the nuns are invited to perform for the Pope.
But His Holiness isn’t the only person to hear about the singers, and it isn’t long before the mob from whom Deloris has been hiding comes to hunt her down.
Will Deloris and her friends escape the gang?
Can they continue to enjoy their new-found love of singing?

Performances are at 7.45pm each evening, with an additional Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
