A CHURCH that wanted to make a point about the environment said it with flowers.
Parishioners from St James’ Church in Finchampstead held a flower festival on the theme of Caring For Our Beautiful World to mark its annual patronal weekend.
The church sanctuary was packed with floral displays all with an environmental theme.
Visitors flocked to the church to admire the displays which had been carefully made by its members.
And that wasn’t all. On the Saturday night, the church choir and organist gave a concert while on the Sunday, the church was packed for an afternoon of fun and games.
A series of stalls were set up in the gardens, teas and coffees were served in the parish hall and visitors were queuing out of the door in a bid to climb the church tower to admire the views of the surrounding countryside.
The event was organised by the church’s social and fundraising committee and raised more than £3,000.
In a note on the church’s website, the team said: “We really do appreciate and thank you all for your help, [thank you] to the lovely people who baked cakes, donated items, helped with refreshments, looked after the stalls and games, put up the gazebos, [and] to everyone who came along and supported the weekend, it was a great team effort.”
