TWO BOROUGH organisations are working together to improve the lives of residents experiencing hardship.
Wokingham United Charities and Berkshire Community Foundation are together impacting hardship with Tackling Poverty Grants.
A pot of £72,000 has been made available by Wokingham United Charities for grants of up to £10,000 to voluntary, community groups and charities working to break the cycle of poverty amongst individuals and families in Wokingham Borough.
The grants were administered by Berkshire Community Foundation, and the money distributed among 10 borough organisations: Hope and Vision Communities, Chance to Dance Stars, First Days Childrens’ Charity, Sport in Mind, ASD Family Help, Yeldall Manor, Parents and Children Together, Freely Fruity, Renova Trust, The Cowshed, and Home-Start Wokingham District.
The charities have been sharing how the funding will be used by them in a wide range of projects, including support for education, training and employment, help with money managing and debt advice, support for mental health and well-being, and easing of access to food and other provisions.
Berkshire Community Foundation works across the county raising, then distributing, money directly to local causes, ensuring that any support it gives is effective and brings greatest benefit to those in need in the borough.
Wokingham United Charities is a grant-giving body dedicated to alleviating poverty and improving the lives of people in the borough.
It provides accommodation for older people in need at its Westende Almshouses, and gives out grants to people in need through its Essential Item Grants, Relief In Need Grants to support charities serving people in hardship, and its Brighter Futures Fund which enables young people to participate in extracurricular activities.
