A GROUP dedicated to Wokingham heritage will hear about colourful residents of the past, all of whom were called Lucas.
Chair of the Wokingham Society Peter Must will speak to group members at the organisation’s next Open Evening.
Mr Must’s illustrated talk will focus on a book of Lucas ancestry, written and illustrated by Louise Bazalgette Lucas, in 1886.
Ms Lucas was a gifted artist, who later married Joseph Stratton, Master of Henry Lucas Hospital.
Following her marriage, she spent the rest of her life in Wokingham.
Her book covers many colourful Lucases of the past.
Mr Must will expore her publication to try to discover whether she was related to Henry Lucas himself.
Wokingham Society exists to encourage the conservation of Wokingham as an historic market town.
The group promotes interest in the town’s history and heritage, welcoming development and businesses that enhance the town, and proposing improvements to the local environment and amenities.
Peter Must’s talk is open to all, with refreshments available afterwards.
The free event takes place at Wokingham Town Hall, on Wednesday, March 20.
Doors open at 7.45pm, for an 8pm start.
