A PALLIATIVE and end-of-life care charity is holding the latest of its regular fundraising event bringing supporters closer to nature.
Thames Hospice’s annual Sunflower Walk is back, where supporters can join one another in getting in touch with local wildlife in aid of the charity.
This year supporters can choose from three different routes, each beginning and ending in the grounds of the hospice near Maidenhead.
Those taking part can choose from a 2.5km waterside walk around Bray Lake, a 10k ramble venturing out to Dorney Lake or more challenging half marathon route from the Hospice along the Thames Path to Windsor and back.
One of those taking part this year is hospice supporter Rachel Bullen, who’s walking in memory of her beloved childminder, Pauline.
Ms Bullen said: “The charity’s Hospice at Home Service gave Pauline her final wish, to die in the comfort of her own home surrounded by those who loved and cared for her deeply.
“The support Pauline received was invaluable not only to her, but also to myself and to her daughter Helen– we cannot thank Thames Hospice enough for everything they did for Pauline and for us.
“The metal sunflower will be an incredibly special memento that will keep Pauline’s memory alive in our hearts and minds forever.”
The Thames Hospice Sunflower Walk returns to the Thames Hospice grounds near Maidenhead on Sunday, September 10.
