MEMBERS of the public will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes with the police at an upcoming open day.

Thames Valley Police is welcoming the visitors to its training centre in Sulhamstead on Saturday, September 2, to illustrate what it takes to police one of the biggest non-metropolitan areas in the country.

The force’s Roads Policing Unit, Forensic Investigations Unit, Contact Management team and Major Crime Unit will feature among 40 exhibitors who will be showcasing their work.

Suitable for all the family, the day will also include a range of interactive activities such as: solving a crime scene, bouncy castle, sumo suits and PC Ben stories with PCSO Dave Bullock.

Deputy chief constable Ben Snuggs, said: “We are delighted to welcome you to our first Force Open Day for four years. We have a range of displays to showcase the great work our teams do every day and plenty of activities for you to get involved in.

“This is a great opportunity to gain an insight into policing, meet our officers, staff and volunteers and, above all, have some fun.”

There will be a fancy dress competition for children to show off their best police-themed costumes, with a prize for the best outfit up for grabs. The force museum and shop will also be open for visitors to enjoy and also take part in an on-the-day raffle.

All funds raised on the day will go to the Curtis Palmer Program charity which helps serving and retired officers and staff with physical injury, illness and mental well-being.

Bags will be permitted on site but should be no bigger than A4 size. Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets due to limited seating.

The event is free to attend and will take place from 10am-4pm. Last entry will be at 3.30pm for a 4pm close.
