BILLIE Bachra, founder of Lambs Lane Repair Cafe, sees plenty of items that might otherwise have been thrown away had they not been taken to the cafe for fixing.
“We hope everyone in the borough has had a great Easter break with family, friends and loved ones,” she said.
“And we’re wondering if people were tempted to carry out some DIY projects during the holiday.
“If they did, maybe they came across tools that weren’t working properly or appeared to be broken.
“Before people rush out to buy replacements, it’s always worth seeing if they can be repaired.
“Getting them fixed will save on the cost of buying new, and supports the environment.
“You may not know that the most environmentally friendly items are the ones you own already.”
The Spencers Wood Repair Cafe at Lambs Lane Primary School is open every fourth Sunday of the month.
Its volunteer fixers will look at a wide range of items to see if they can be fixed, including bikes, textiles, zips, suitcases and toys.
“If you can bring it in, we’ll do our best to fix it,” says the group.
“And we’ll be happy to share our skills with you, so that you can learn how to fix your own items in future.”
The next event is at Lambs Lane Primary School on Sunday, April 27.
Doors are open from 10am until 1pm.
Repairs are free, with donations gratefully received.
