A WOKINGHAM group that exists to support local people in need is giving grants to borough charities to help them share festive fun.
Wokingham United Charities’ Christmas Cheer Grant Programme will help eight organisations to fund seasonal parties and to spread the joy of Christmas with those who are struggling to make ends meet.
Its Christmas Cheer 2023 programme is specifically for charities supporting individuals and families in need this Christmas.
“Christmas is a time of giving and goodwill,” said WUC office and grants administrator Susanna Jennings.
“It’s when local charities come together to promote their Christmas appeals.
“Given the events of the past couple of years, and what is now a cost-of-living crisis, we are fully aware of the intense increased demand for services that provide support to those in need.
“We want to help spread a little Christmas Cheer.
“Our grant giving at Christmas supports our mission of relief to those in need, by supporting local organisations working with families, individuals, and the elderly, who may otherwise go without anything this Christmas. “
WUC Christmas Cheer Grants of up to £2,000 can be used by charities to pay for Christmas gifts, lunches, and food hampers.
Charities benefiting this year are: CLASP Wokingham; A Christmas Presence led by First Days Children’s Charity; Kaleidoscopic UK; The Wokingham Rotary Club; Yeldall Manor; Finchampstead Baptist Church; Headway Thames Valley; and The Cowshed.
