THE VOWS are till death do us part and it seems in Wokingham people take that to heart.
New research suggests the borough is tops in the country for long-lasting marriages or civil partnerships as just one in eight people tying the knot get divorced.
BestCasinoSites.net compared marriage and divorce statistics for the 10-year period 2011-21, and found that 77,500 people in the borough were hitched, and 10,665 were no longer with their partner – 12.10%.
The 55-59 age group has the highest percentage of marriages ending at 17.4%, yet this is still 13.56% fewer than in Blackpool – the unluckiest region in love (25.8%).
Despite this, the north east of England is the place where marriages are likely to succeed.
St Albans ranks second, with every three in 25 couples destined to be divorced (12.42%), with 45-49 year olds having the most successful marriages, with a total of 8,160 couples to date.
With a 4% increase, couples in Epsom and Ewell rank as being the third (12.46%) most successful in marriage. In this district, 55-59 year olds have the highest odds of getting divorced, while 45-49-year-olds host the highest number of lasting partnerships.
There are some caveats – London wasn’t part of the survey, and it doesn’t take into account those who remarried.
