Wokingham town council has had its say on the controversial plans for affordable housing development near Wokingham station.
Wokingham borough council described its plans for the land on the corner of Wellington Road and Station Road, adjacent to Park Avenue, as “.. a transformative new housing development” that could bring 21 affordable homes to Wokingham.
A large number of objections to the scheme were submitted during the consultation period.
Wokingham town council’s planning committee noted the need for affordable housing in the town, but also expressed its ‘concerns and objections’.
It said: “The committee would want Wokingham borough council to adopt Park Road as part of this development.
“The committee would like Wokingham borough council to review the construction management plan. The mass of the building at the end facing Park Road is a concerning issue. The height of the ridge is excessive and the overlooking of properties in Park Road is unacceptable.”
It also noted how “.. the lack of car parking is a concern for those visiting the site, in particular carers who may find parking difficult.
“This would force them to park on local roads.”
Wokingham Today had earlier reported how a rare tree that has been the subject of a tree protection order since 1989 is set to disappear as a result of plans.
The consultation for the planning application ended last week.
