A TOWN centre art gallery unveiled a new piece designed to compliment Wokingham’s participation in the national finals for the countrywide Britain In Bloom competition.
R Young Art Gallery has partnered the Town Council’s Wokingham In the campaign, and organised an art competition to decorate the town’s fire station garden.
On Tuesday artist and gallery owner Richard Young invited Wokingham Town Council mayor, Cllr Sally Gurney to unveil his new art work, created entirely with silk flowers.
Mr Young said: “We’re extremely proud and excited to be part of Wokingham In Bloom.
“We’re keen to be part of the community, and pleased to have helped organise the fire station art competition.
The floral piece, is called Marilyn Monrose.
Created by Mr Young and his team, it incorporates 2,000 silk roses.
“In 2019 I saw a wall covering in Windsor that gave me the idea to make a mosaic of flowers,” Mr Young said.
“I wanted to create an image that would be instantly recogniseable to everybody, something bright and colourful, creative, and using flowers.
“I searched for four years for a suitable medium, sketched out a design, and when everything was ready, the team got to work.
“We started at 10am in the morning and hung the finished piece on the wall at 8.30pm.”
The artwork can be seen in R Young Art Gallery, off Denmark Street.
