TWYFORD Parish Council declared that Ian Wisdom is their Twyford Citizen of the Year.
Mr Wisdom, the driving force behind Twyford Beer Festival, and a champion fundraiser was presented with a plaque and gift at a Twyford Together Community Awards event.
Twyford Parish Council Vice Chair John Bowley, presenting, said: “We are delighted to be able to recognise Ian with this award.
“His dedication over the years has not only raised awareness, but also thousands of pounds for Orchid.
The Twyford Beer Festival is an annual village event that raises thousands of pounds for Orchid, a charity supporting men with cancer.
It promotes beers, ciders, food and music, and all its staff and the performance groups give their time for free to benefit the charity..
Mr Wisdom also provides the bar at Wokingham Music Festival and gets involved with other community events, including the Twyford Village Fete.
Mr Wisdom said: “I was gobsmacked to receive the award.
“It was totally unexpected – I had no idea it was coming, and I still don’t know who put me forward.
“To be honest, I’m embarrassed, because there are so many deserving people, and it wasn’t just me, it was my whole team who have helped to raise £132,000 for Orchid over a period of 14 years.
“I’m really happy to support Orchid, and amazed at what the charity has been able to achieve, including improvements to surgery techniques for men with prostate and other cancers.
“They’re making a significant difference to men’s lives.”
