The origins of an underground structure that was unearthed by a Finchampstead resident could be a step closer to being resolved.
Last week Wokingham Today reported how Andrew Cracknell discovered what he initially believed was a bomb shelterwhen investigating damp issues in his back garden on Nash Grove Lane.
The bomb shelter idea has now been ruled out, but the exact purpose of the extensive structure remains a mystery.
After the story was published, some users on social media suggested it could have been used for water storage, while others felt it could have been a food store connected with a former manor house or farm.
On Wednesday, Peter Must from the Wokingham Society and Gillian Holmes from the Berkshire Architectural Research Group visited the site, took images and agreed to conduct further investigations.
