The ongoing progress of work to build a new sixth form building at the Emmbrook School was raised at a recent full council; meeting of Wokingham borough council.
James Westhorpe asked Cllr Prue Bray, the executive councillor for children’s services: “Can you update me on progress with a new 6th form building at Emmbrook school?
Cllr Bray replied. She said: “As planned, the enabling works have progressed well over the summer holidays and are largely complete, with the ground reinstated and ready for project delivery.
“One outstanding item, which is the testing of a single trench of gas pipework, remains outstanding and will be completed over the October half term.
Mr Westhorpe said: “I noted that at the council meeting of July 31, the council committed to actually announcing a plan on September 5 when enabling work, which as you have rightly highlighted, has begun, is to be completed and regularly updated through the Wokingham borough council website, which identifies a timeline for the project, including days when construction of the facilities will be complete and when the building will be open for use in September 2027.
“It has been specified that the plan will be made available to parents and the local community, and be published on the Wokingham borough website.
“However, at this particular stage I have not noted anything, as you highlighted it would be done by September 5.
Cllr Bray said: “I fear that this is partly my fault because I have in fact been in hospital,
“I will find out when it is going to be published, but I can promise you that we have every intention of sticking to the project, and we would not be paying for enabling works were we not be going to proceed with it.”
