FOLLOWING the success of its inaugural eco fair last year, All Saints Church in Wokingham is holding an even bigger environmental event this month.
Earth Fayre 2024 is an opportunity to browse stalls, enjoy activities, swap books, and hear talks on a range of topics.
The event is free, suitable for all ages, and offers something for everyone.
Visitors will be able to chat with representatives from a number of local environmental groups, including: All Saints Repair Cafe, Lambs Lane Repair Cafe, Climate Fresk, Draughtbusters, Global Justice, the Green Party, Kiddical Mass, Maya’s Refillables, Path Financial Ltd, Quench Christian Bookshop, Reading Friends of the Earth, ThermaDetect Ltd, Involve Community Services, Lavell’s Wetland Trust, Mini Nature Artists, and Art and Craft Towards Sustainability.
Nine guest speakers will talk on a range of topics.
At 10.30am Resh Thorpe from Wokingham Borough Council will speak about the council’s response to the climate emergency, and how residents can play their part.
At 11am Helen Wright will discuss how to warn future generations about the dangers of nuclear waste.
At 11.30pm Janet from Woodland Trust will talk about the benefits of trees to the planet.
At noon visitors can hear Madhulika Karthik from SaveSoil Movement/GreenSkills Library.
At 12.30pm Tony from DraughtBusters will discuss finding and fixing draughts in the home.
At 1pm Steven Packiarajah will talk about displacing fossil fuel heating with heat pumps.
At 1.30pm visitors can hear Tom Blomley speak about natural resources.
At 2pm Chris Merchant from the University of Reading will ask ‘What’s happening with the world’s climate?
And at 2.30pm Margaret Cocks from Global Justice will discuss negotiating a fossil free future.
Children’s activities include arts and crafts, with story sessions available from 10am until 11.45pm.
An activities stall will be open throughout the event, a choral concert will take place at 10.45am, and people needing to stretch their legs can take a self-paced churchyard tour.
Tea, coffee, and cakes will be available from the cafe.
The event takes place at All Saints Church, Wokingham, on Saturday, September 28, from 10am until 3pm.
