Home-Start supports ordinary parents going through extraordinary times.
Parents can feel exhausted and overwhelmed by the stresses of family life, particularly if they have little support from family and friends when they need it most.
Home-Start has been described as ‘armbands in deep water’ because we offer a lifeline to parents who feel overwhelmed and in desperate need of support, reassurance and friendship by providing them with home-visiting volunteers.
Are you a parent or do you have parenting experience? Do you have two or three hours a week to visit and support a young family within Wokingham Borough?
If you are interested, please get in touch.
Our next Volunteer Preparation Course starts on April 17, and runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm on three consecutive Wednesdays.
We are a small local group that raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Last year, we raised over £13,000, and half of this was spent in Berkshire.
We need some additional willing, enthusiastic volunteer fund-raisers. Can you help?
We raise funds by collecting donations in stores, in street collections, and at events such as quizzes.
Typically, we have a collection or event each month.
We usually work in shifts so that each person only works for two hours or less. Can you spare just two hours per month? If you can, it will be a rewarding experience and you will be helping to support people living with cancer.
You must be age 18 or over.
Looking for a volunteer role which is a bit different? Then this could be the role for you.
The Berkshire Reptile and Amphibian Group (BRAG) runs a patrol each year to help toads crossing Priest Hill (Road) at Farley Hill in Swallowfield.
We’ve now helped a whopping 13,176 toads to cross since 2009.
We would appreciate some new volunteers who can patrol on various evenings. We are looking for more volunteers to cover Thursday evenings, and only one person on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays each week if you can or on an ad-hoc basis, to help us to protect the toads crossing the road each night.
Wellies, warm coats, high-vis jackets and torches are a must.
This task can be done alone or as a group of friends or family, so long as you all sign up together, are above the age of 18 and all relevant details are given.
It would appreciated if you could agree to a regular weekly slot for the few months migration occurs, which we are estimating will be from mid-February to early April.
If you would like to get in touch about these roles or volunteering in general, please contact the Wokingham Volunteer Centre via email volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk or 0118 977 0749. Please visit our website www.volunteerwokinghamborough.org.uk for a full list of current opportunities.
