The Woodley Lunch Brunch operate a packed lunch delivery service to children during the school holidays to families in Woodley (RG5) who are having a difficult time financially, or in other ways.
We also deliver activity packs, toiletry/hygiene parcels and food packages when possible.
Originally founded in 2020 in response to the Coronavirus pandemic and the precarious financial situation people found themselves in we are unfortunately still seeing that need in 2023.
We operate on Tuesdays throughout the summer holidays.
Volunteers are needed for roles such as washing, chopping and preparing vegetables/fruit, slicing and bagging cake, making sandwiches, weighing and bagging ingredients and packing up lunches.
We also need delivery drivers to drop these parcels across the RG5 area.
Volunteers helping with food prep will be needed from 9/9.30am and drivers from 11.30am.
A delivery round takes approximately an hour. Volunteers are welcome to take on both food preparation and delivery roles if they wish or just help with one of the roles.
The Wokingham Transport Scheme is looking for drivers who can provide transport for older people to attend vital medical appointments such hospitals, local doctors, dentists, opticians, physiotherapists, drivers who can help with one-off social trips, such as shopping and visiting friends/family in hospital/care homes and so on, as well as more regular social trips, such as to a lunch club or activity which may involve dropping them of and picking them up later rather than waiting with them.
Time commitment can be very flexible. If you live in Wokingham, Finchampstead, Winnersh or Barkham and you would like to help, please get in touch! You must have a full driving licence and own car.
No specialist car insurance is needed. Unfortunately, we cannot take on any new volunteers aged under 21 or 75 and over due to insurance purposes.
Commitment is ongoing and we ideally need one-day minimum per week of your time.
Our Community First is a group of volunteers working to improve the lives of individuals and families living in the Norreys Ward and the local area.
We aim to work with residents, local authorities, and other organisations to provide events and activities, reduce financial hardship, and empower and encourage members of the community of Norreys Ward to develop capacity and skills to meet their needs and participate fully in society.
We currently regularly run three groups – Ladies Drop-In (Friday mornings – Norreys Church) Wednesday Kids Club – Norreys Church (Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm) and The Grub Club during school holidays.
We always welcome volunteers but at the moment we are desperately in need of volunteers for our after-school club on a Wednesday. We are particularly keen to hear from volunteers with experience of working with children with special educational needs.
If you are interested in the roles above or to discuss your specific volunteering needs, please get in touch with Helena Badger, Volunteer Services Manager; volunteer@wok-vol.org.uk 0118 977 0749 or visit our website www.volunteerwokinghamborough.org.uk
