ABC to Read recruit, train and support volunteers who work on a one-to-one basis with primary school children who are struggling with reading.
Volunteers will visit a local primary school on a weekly basis and works with children individually seeing the same children on each visit, talking and reading and playing games with them. The volunteers are supported by a field worker who is available to provide ideas and act as a link between the charity and the school.
Their next training course is being held on March 8.
The National Trust look after the wildlife and stunning landscapes of Finchampstead Ridges and Simon’s Wood.
They are looking for people to help by becoming Volunteer Rangers.
The role will involve helping the ranger team with practical work to keep the countryside in great condition, learning more about Finchampstead Ridges and Simons Wood, its history, landscape, nature and archaeology, enjoying the great outdoors and sharing your knowledge with visitors, maintaining good relationships with people who share the land. The volunteer will also receive a concise induction will cover the use of tools and health and safety procedures.
Volunteers will need to enjoy being outdoors, whatever the weather, are reasonably fit and healthy and love being part of a team.
It helps if you have a real enthusiasm about Finchampstead Ridges and Simons Wood. They meet every second and third Wednesday of every month.
