WEEKEND PREVIEW: Sumas return home, Bees season begins

Sumas have struggled for results in recent weeks

WOKINGHAM AND EMMBROOK will finally play their first home game of the season this Saturday.

As is often the case, Sumas have been forced to play three away fixtures to kick off the campaign as the cricket season came to a close at Lowther Road.

But Dan Bateman’s men are back in the borough this weekend for a big clash with unbeaten Penn and Tylers Green.

Despite playing three away games, Sumas come into this match having made a perfect start in Hellenic Division One East, winning three games from three, and Bateman has a large squad to pick from tomorrow.

Eversley are seeking their first ever FA Vase victory

Elsewhere, the FA Vase gets underway with in-form EVERSLEY AND CALIFORNIA making the trip down south to face Ringwood Town.

The Boars sit top of the Combined Counties Division One after seven wins from their opening eight matches but have never won a match in this competition.

Also in the Vase, WOODLEY UNITED go to league rivals Oxford City Nomads, but that game has been pushed back to Sunday.

In league action, BINFIELD travel to face struggling Burnham in the Hellenic Premier on Saturday afternoon, looking to build on their 3-1 win over Ascot United on Monday.

READING are back at Madejski Stadium, hosting Bristol City for their first game since the international break.

David Edwards and Sone Aluko could be set for their debuts following late transfer window arrivals.

Thames Valley sides are also in action with HURST hosting Burghfield in Division One while FINCHAMPSTEAD are hosting Langley Galaxy in the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup.

Fergus Mulchrone will miss the trip to Exeter with a hamstring injury

There is also women’s action on Sunday with WOODLEY UNITED LADIES and WARGRAVE LADIES both in action.

The rugby season also continues this weekend with LONDON IRISH looking to build on their excellent start when they travel to Exeter Chiefs tomorrow.

The Exiles have made just one change from the side which beat Harlequins at Twickenham last weekend with Italy international Luke McLean making his debut in place of the injured Fergus Mulchrone.

REDINGENSIANS RAMS are looking to bounce back from their second half collapse against Henley Hawks on the opening day when they welcome London Irish Wild Geese to Old Bath Road in the National League 2 South.

CROWTHORNE kick-off their Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier season at home against Tadley.

Most of the cricket has now come to a close, but BINFIELD do face a huge clash away to Taplow, knowing victory is the only option if they want to win the Chilterns Division One.

BRACKNELL BEES begin the Scott Spearing era in earnest on Saturday when they travel to Milton Keynes Thunder in the NIHL 1 South.

Bees played a pre-season double header against Swindon Wildcats last weekend, losing 4-2 away before winning 5-3 at The Hive.
