WOKINGHAM’S almshouse community celebrated Christmas with a very jolly festive lunch, held in the residents’ lounge.

It was hosted by grant giving organisation Wokingham United Charities, which runs and manages the almshouses.
The 27 self-contained one-bedroom flats provide accommodation in Wokingham for older unable to afford commercial rents.
Lynda Rowe, on-site manager for more than 20 years, has helped to create a warm and welcoming community atmosphere at Westende.
She enjoys organising social activities for the residents, and this month arranged for family-run Wokingham catering business A Bit of a Do to provide traditional Christmas lunch.

As well as residents and staff members, the charity’s board of trustees past and present joined in the lunchtime fun.
Charity manager Amy Garstang said: “We were delighted to celebrate the festive season with a wonderful Christmas lunch alongside our trustees and residents, both new and familiar faces.
“It’s always a special time of year to come together, share laughter, and enjoy the warmth of our community at Westende.
“Moments like these remind us what the season is truly about, community, joy, and gratitude.”
