A BOROUGH care home resident has celebrated her very impressive birthday with special guests, residents and staff.
Joan, who lives at Wild Acres Care Home was treated to a day of entertainment that included a buffet and live music.
Her 103rd birthday was made extra special by visits from Wokingham MP Clive Jones, and Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Carol Jewell.
“Wild Acres Care Home was full of smiles, laughter, and celebration as residents, staff, and special guests came together to mark Joan’s extraordinary milestone,” said Simran Surdhar from ANW care.
The day started in style with a live singer performing a selection of nostalgic favourites, followed by a buffet.

“A surprise visit from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service added an extra touch of excitement as the team joined in congratulating Joan,” said Simran.

“And adding an extra personal touch, home manager Andrina Fry had organised for Joan to receive 103 cards, making the day even more memorable, and showing just how loved she is by everyone around her.”
Joan’s life story is as inspiring as her spirit.

Born in Reading on 23 November 1922, she began her working life at Huntley & Palmers world-famous British biscuit company as a wages clerk.
During the Second World War, she served in the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force) taking on several roles, including that of driver.
After the war, she married, raised five children, and later welcomed ten grandchildren.
Joan moved to Wokingham in 1948 and became part of the Wild Acres family in December 2024.
She quickly settled in, forming friendships and enjoying activities such as puzzles, cards, Scrabble, table-top gardening, and chair-based music and exercise.

Joan’s birthday celebration was filled with warmth, community, and admiration for a truly extraordinary lady,” said Simran.
