WOKINGHAM and Emmbrook’s involvement in the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy is over following a 4-0 defeat at Ascot United on Tuesday night.
The Sumas, who ended a run of nine straight defeats with Saturday’s 6-1 thrashing of Shrivenham in the FA Vase last Saturday, kept their Hellenic Premier Division rivals quiet for more than an hour at the Racecourse Ground.
But the deadlock was broken on 65 minutes by Joe Grant and the floodgates promptly opened for the Yellamen as the away side pushed forward in search of a way back into the game.
The striker went on to hit a 15-minute hat-trick, with Joe Jarra netting the hosts’ fourth late on.
Victory was United’s third over Wokingham and Emmbrook this season, with the side triumphing in the league and Hellenic Challenge Cup before this latest success.
The visitor’s attentions now turn to Saturday’s crunch clash at the foot of the table at Abingdon United on Saturday (3pm).
– Reward for the Sumas’ win over Shrivenham is a first round proper tie with Hartley Wintney of the Combined Counties League.
The game will be played at the Memorial Playing Fields on Saturday, October 31 (3pm).
The two teams met recently during pre-season, a game Wokingham won 5-4.
