LITERATURE-loving Wokingham shoppers have helped to raise more than £4,000 for community-enhancing good causes.
For the past two years, Tesco colleagues have been running a Community Bookshelf at the Wokingham Superstore to raise funds for various local charities.
The bookshelf enables avid readers to donate or purchase a hardback or paperback, with all funds going to a chosen charity.
The last collection of 2025 totalled £410 and was given to the Me2 Club, which provides support for local children and young people with additional needs and disabilities.
Hannah Norris, Fundraising Manager at the Me2 Club, said: “We are extremely grateful to Tesco for this generous donation.
“Me2Club is an inclusion charity supporting children and young people with additional needs to access everyday activities such as sports clubs, uniformed groups and community events.
“All funds raised go directly towards recruiting and training volunteer buddies, supporting families, reducing waiting lists, and creating inclusive opportunities so children can participate, feel confident and belong in their communities.”
The cash contribution to the Me2 Club takes the total raised by Wokingham Superstore’s charity bookshelf to £4,340, with Herbie Hedgehog Rescue already lined up to be the next beneficiary.
Louise Jedras, Community Champion at the Wokingham Superstore, said: “My colleagues and I are immensely proud to have passed the £4,000 mark.
“We would like to thank all our generous customers who have made this possible.
“Throughout the year a charity is drawn at random from the ones suggested by colleagues to benefit from the donations over a three-month period.
“They can use the money to fund initiatives that really do help people and animals within our communities.
“We are looking forward to seeing what we can raise during 2026 to help support more community projects.”
