Wokingham has been ranked as the sixth ‘brainiest area’ in England.
The research was conducted by education experts at UTS Online, and analysed level-8 attainment rates for GCSE and A-Level exams in England’s biggest towns and cities, along with higher education qualification rates, and vocational qualification certificate numbers to establish England’s brainiest areas.
Bath came out on top as the brainiest area in England with a 42.80 score.
The city had the highest population percentage with a higher education degree or higher, at 58.04%. It also managed to place in the top ten for both A-Levels and GSCE exams, achieving an average score of 52.2%. Similarly, the city is in the top ten for the most NVQ certificates. All these factors make the city top of the pile in both intelligence and education.
Nearby Slough was second with a 40.34 score. The publishers said the East Berkshire town is a cut above others when it comes to professional achievements, as it has the highest percentage of residents with NVQ certificates.
Wokingham was ranked in sixth place with a score of 36.83. The report noted that students here set high scores in both GSCE exams and A-Levels, placing third and fourth respectively in the country.
While Wokingham is also in the top ten for the highest percentage of residents with higher education degrees, it is held back by its low number of residents with NVQ certificates.
