A BOROUGH music group gave people something to make a joyful noise about at its recent Come and Sing event.
Wokingham Choral Society’s workshop gave participants and opportunity to rehearse and then perform Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man – a Mass for Peace.
More than 150 singers from 40 different choirs in the southern region came together under the leadership of Wokingham Choral Society’s Musical director George de Voil.
After an afternoon spent rehearsing they performed the work to a packed audience at All Saints Church Wokingham, with all proceeds from the event going to homeless charity Shelter.
The scratch choir was supported by Ben Emerson on the organ and with an accompaniment of trumpet and drums.
Tharmiga Sivakaran from Shelter outlined the work of the charity to the audience and singers at the event.
And at the end of the performance there was a retiring collection, which, together with ticket sales, raised £2,700 for Shelter.
Wokingham Choral Society’s next concert is titled Sturm und Drang – German Romantics Myths and Legends.
It will feature Beethoven’s Mass in C and works by Schubert , Schumann, Humperdink and Mendelssohn.
The event will take place at All Saints Church on Saturday, March 21 at 7.30pm.
