Wokingham Society is inviting members of the public to a free event celebrating one of the town’s most remarkable figures, aviator Winifred Spooner. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 25, at 8pm in Wokingham Town Hall.
Local historian Richard Gibbs will deliver an illustrated talk exploring the life and achievements of Spooner, who earned recognition in the early 20th century as a pioneering female pilot. Attendees can expect to learn about her daring flights, contributions to aviation, and her connection to Wokingham, which played an important role in her life and career.
The event aims to provide both aviation enthusiasts and local residents with a deeper understanding of Spooner’s legacy, highlighting her as an inspirational figure whose achievements continue to resonate today. Admission is free, and the society encourages anyone interested in local history or aviation to attend.
