A CHARITY theatre night in Wokingham has raised more than £3,000 for a local good cause.
A performance of Lovesong by Abi Morgan, at Wokingham Theatre, gave Wokingham 41 Club an opportunity to support their chosen charity.
The club was delighted that the event enabled them to raise more than £3,000 for Wokingham Foodbank.
Clive Eckett, Chairman of Wokingham 41 Club, presented a cheque for £3,200 to Simon O’Kane of the Wokingham Foodbank, who thanked 41 Club and Wokingham Theatre, and explained that the foodbank is in constant demand to help families struggling with the cost of living in Wokingham.
“Fortunately Wokingham people are generous in donating food at the supermarket collection points, for which we are so thankful,” he continued.
The first Wednesday of every Wokingham Theatre production is offered as a charity night.
All ticket proceeds from that performance go not to the theatre, but to a Wokingham good cause.
In January, Wokingham 41 Club adopted Lovesong’s first night performance to support the food bank.
A spokesperson for the club said: “What a special, emotive play Lovesong was – performed beautifully by Wokingham Theatre.
“Thank you to all who bought tickets, generous businesses who donated raffle prizes, and the actors and backstage folk for giving their time and skill.”
Representing Wokingham Theatre at the cheque presentation, was its finance director Steve Joy.
