A NEWLY upgraded and extended wellbeing room at the Wade Day Centre will give members dignity and privacy, say staff.
The centre’s existing health care space has been given made larger and given a facelift thanks to support from Wokingham United Charities (WUC).
The grant-giving organisation funded four worthy projects at its most recent giving round, giving substantial Thrive awards to charities; Building for the Future, Freely Fruity, Kaleidoscopic UK, and the WADE Day Centre.
WADE offers support to older borough residents, with home-cooked meals and a warm and friendly environment in which to mix and socialise.
Its subsidised day care Monday to Friday provides trained staff able to care for older people, including those with early stage dementia.
Its upgraded wellbeing room is now warm, and light, with a proper hand washing station, rather than the old kitchen sink it had before.
Senior carer Rachel Heskins, and care manager Julie Marsh said: “It has always been a medication room, but it really wasn’t big enough to be useful.

“Now that it’s 18 inches wider, it’s big enough for a hospital profile bed suitable for people with mobility issues, and a hoist.
“And it’s been decorated, too, so it’s much more cheerful.
“It’s a lovely safe space for anyone who’s feeling upset, needs privacy, or is waiting for an ambulance.
“Previously we had to use to put screens around someone if they needed privacy.
“We’re so grateful to Wokingham United Charities for their Thrive Grant.
“The room will be well used, and will make such a difference to the members.”
Joyce, a regular WADE member was one of the first members to see inside the new wellbeing room.
“It’s very nice, but I hope I’m not in here too often,” she joked.
WUC’s Thrive Grant is just one of its awards.
The organisation also offers Essential Items, Relief in Need, Bright Futures (for young people’s extra curricular activities), Household Support, and School Trip grants.
