A new mini-mayor has been selected by Wokingham town council.

Celia, who was chosen for this year’s coveted position, visited the town Hall last week to meet the Wokingham town mayor, Cllr Rob Comber.

She was pictured dressed in red robes, shaking hands with Cllr Comber ahead of taking on the position.

In Wokingham, the mini-mayor joins the full-time mayor and attends events, including heritage open day, the winter carnival, dressing the Christmas tree and the May fayre.

Primary schools within the town boundaries are invited to nominate two year 5 pupils for the honorary position.

Those nominated then write a letter to introduce themselves to the mayor.

In previous years, finalists then attend a tea party before the mini-mayor is selected.

A spokesperson for Wokingham town council said: :“We would like to introduce Celia, our newly appointed mini-mayor for the forthcoming year.

“Celia popped into the town hall this week to try on the robe, and we’re really looking forward to her joining us again for some events coming up.

“Enjoy the rest of your summer holidays Celia, we’ll see you very soon.”
