THE first store in the new Elms Field development is to open on Thursday, July 11.
And there will be freebies on offer for the first 30 customers through the doors of supermarket Aldi when it opens at 8am.
The store, the latest from the chain which is now the country’s fifth largest, will be opened by Olympic rugby player Daniel Bibby.
The visit comes as part of Aldi’s partnership with Team GB to help children to develop their understanding and love of fresh and healthy food.
Exclusive offers will run throughout the opening day and the first 30 customers through the door will receive a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s fantastic Super 6 range.
The store will be managed by Craig Breadmore, who oversaw the launch of the borough’s first Aldi, which opened in Earley in February last year.
He is promising that the store will have large chillers and freezers dedicated to fresh, British meat products, a Food to Go section at the front of the store, a selection of award-winning beers, wines and spirits. There will also be a section devoted to award-winning health and beauty products.
Bargain fans will be pleased to learn that there will be an area dedicated to the chain’s Specialbuys: for those who have not shopped at Aldi before, every Thursday and Sunday there is a smorgasbord of items including food, drink, homeware, clothes and garden tools as well as electrical items.
Mr Breadmore said: “We’re really looking forward to opening our new store in Wokingham. The team and I are working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready for the big day. It will be fantastic to have Daniel with us too, posing for photos and giving out bags of free fruit and vegetables to our new customers.”
And Mr Bibby, who scoped a silver medal at the Olympics, said: “I can’t wait to open the new Aldi – I’m excited to meet the store’s first customers and chat to everyone about all things Olympics and healthy eating.”
From Thursday, July 11, the store will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and on Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
