Reading missed the opportunity to move into the League One play-off places after suffering a narrow away defeat to Mansfield Town.
The Royals went into the match knowing a victory would lift them into the top six, but they were unable to find a way past a resilient Mansfield side at the One Call Stadium.
Mansfield took the lead midway through the second half, capitalising on a defensive lapse to put the hosts in front. Reading pushed for an equaliser late on, but struggled to create clear chances as Mansfield held firm.
Despite late pressure from the visitors, the home side defended resolutely to secure all three points.
The result leaves Reading just outside the play-off positions and represents a missed opportunity in their push for promotion as the season enters its closing stages.
Reading fans reacted on social media following a disappointing performance and result from the team.
One fan said: “Worst performance I’ve seen for years that. Passed the ball to Mansfield more than to each other, no excuses for that, that was awful.”
Another added: “People think we’re good cause we get late winners here and there, it’s always just been luck every single game. We were by far the second best team.”
Another fan said: “Absolutely dire. Weak and sloppy all over the pitch, especially in midfield. What were the tactics? Hit and hope someone is there.”
