KITTY Holmes will take on a triathlon challenge in September.
The 21 year old is entering the event to raise funds for Building For The Future Plus, a Twyford charity that runs a number of initiatives that support disabled young people in the post-school and college years.
Kitty, who has cerebral palsy, is looking forward to using the BFTF+ services when she graduates from college this summer.
She wants to give ahead of time to the charity that will support her.
She said: “I am going to really push myself by doing a triathlon of my best distances.
“It might not seem a lot to some people, but for me this will be a real challenge.
“BFTF+ is a great charity.
“It helps young disabled people take part in meaningful activities, and build networks for their work, creative and social lives.
“They are going to rent a space this year to run workshops and events to bring young people like me together to socialise, learn and grow.
“This is so much needed in our area and I can’t wait.”
On Thursday, September 7, Kitty will attempt to swim, cycle, and walk routes in Braywick Leisure Centre and around Braywick Park, Maidenhead.
She hopes to raise over £2,000 for BFTF+, accompanied by her dad Jasper as her guide.
The charity provides services and support systems to help bridge the employment and social gap that many disabled young people over 18 years encounter.
The group says that transition into adult life isn’t as straightforward for their young people as it is for non-disabled people.
To help redress the balance, BFTF+ assists disabled young people with their career ambitions, and supports their physical and mental health with a series of sporting, educational and social activities.
