RESIDENTS of Finchampstead and Barkham are this morning without water after two water mains suffered from burst pipes.
A team from Thames Water are on scene, while tankers have been deployed to bring extra water into the area.
The company has also made deliveries of bottled water to vulnerable customers.
One of the leaks was on Barkham Street in Finchampstead near Commonfield Lane and Wokingham Borough Council set up temporary traffic lights.
Another was on Barkham Ride, and the road was underwater this morning.
A Thames Water spokesperson told Wokingham Today: “We’re sorry to customers in Finchampstead who are experiencing low pressure or no water. This is the result of two burst water mains, following the recent cold weather.
“We’d like to reassure residents that we have two teams on the ground who repairing the pipes and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In addition, we have two tankers in the area that are bringing extra water into our network, reducing the impact on customers.
“We’ve also delivered bottled water to vulnerable customers on our Priority Services Register.”
And a spokesperson for Wokingham Borough Council confirmed that no emergency procedures have been enacted.
“It’s Thames Water’s responsibility to fix, communicate to residents, and to provide alternative water supplies if the outage length meets a specific threshold etc,” they said. “We are in communication with Thames Water to make sure things are fixed as quickly as possible.”
It is the second major leak in the borough this week.
On Monday, South East Water closed one carriageway of Reading Road in Woosehill to undertake repairs to a burst main. This is expected to be completed tomorrow (Thursday).
It follows on from four days of problems in Reading.
On Saturday, January 20, there was a problem at the Pangbourne Water Treatment Works, which knocked out the supply to homes across the RG1, RG8, RG30 and RG31 areas.
Many homes had either low pressure or no water.
The final homes, in the Newtown area of Reading, were reconnected by this morning as Thames Water fixed another leak on Wokingham Road at its junction with Eastern Avenue.
The company says dealing with this has been compounded by having to fix 10 major leaks at the same time.
