Something different heads up our playlist this week – a song about cannibals who run a pub.

Certainly an unusual drinking experience, but it makes for a great song. We think you’ll love it.

Each week, there are 10 great acts in our playlist, all with a connection to Reading or Wokingham. Tune in for free on Spotify at: bit.ly/rawsoundstoday

This song is about cannibals that operate a pub, eat the customers and get superpowers from that. Well, Jopy certainly have musical superpowers so if you pop into a pub and see members of Jopy in there..take care.

The band is based around the talents of front person Jo Parnell and this is a great new single.

It has an excellent indie pop sound with a wonderfully exciting guitar solo and a great vocal delivery of creatively unusual but fascinating lyrics.

Jo grew up in Guildford and although now based in Brighton, the band have played many great shows in the Reading area. Their next show is June 6, at a Goo Records showcase at The Old Blue Last in London – linktr.ee/jopymusic

Third Lung – Pin Stripe Maroon

It’s the first release of 2024 for the band that regularly appears in our top songs of the year.

As you’d expect it’s another slice of power, melody and quality from this Readin- based band. Drums open the track to entice you in before you are hooked by a cool infectious rock riff overlaid by Tom Farrelly’s powerful vocals which seem to get better and better with each release.

Guitarist Cams Jurasek has an impressive guitar sound and this is also showcased to great effect here – www.thirdlungband.com

The Paradox Twin – Planeta

This Reading band based around musician and songwriter Danny Sorrell are getting such a positive reputation around the world that they are currently touring in Europe.

They are performing the whole of their debut album, ‘The Importance of Mr Bedlam’ which was released on our White Star Records label.

They will be playing just one show of the full album in the UK and that is in their home town at South Street Arts Centre on June 20. Their only other UK show this year will be a special festival set at Wokingham Festival on August Bank Holiday Monday 26 – www.theparadoxtwin.com

The Mezz – Town Boy

It’s Oxford-based The Mezz who, at Sub89 performed a vibrant exciting set recently as part of Are You Listening? festival – bit.ly/themezzlinks

Secret Rivals – Omen

It’s another band from Oxford and another from AYL Festival with their new melodic indie pop single – www.facebook.com/secretrivals

West Street – Here I Go

A new young band from Maidenhead with their debut single. Check them out at Wokingham Festival – www.instagram.com/weststreetband.official

Nicole Allan – Time

Nicole is a singer-songwriter with a country feel and a powerful soulful voice. Check her out at Wokingham Festival too – www.facebook.com/nicoleallan95

Big Horizon – In The Beginning

It’s an excellent new band created by Iain Hornal (who grew up in Reading) and his fellow musicians who play with some of the biggest artists in the world (Take That, ELO, 10cc etc) – www.facebook.com/bighorizonmusic

Puma Theory – Sobering Lights

Following a great set at AYL, this local band go to London to play at Hope and Anchor on June 13 – www.facebook.com/pumatheory
