Former Wokingham town mayor Cllr Lou Timlin performed one of her last duties when she presented a cheque for almost £7,500 to CLASP, her mayoral charity for the year.
She told Wokingham Today: “I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to raise this money for them, and obviously, it’s for them to decide what they want to do with that
“There are no restrictions on it.
“It’s been raised in so many ways, and I’d like to say a huge, huge thanks to everyone who has donated, and to everyone who’s interacted on social media and taking the time to get to know a little bit more about what they do.
Debs Morrison, CEO of CLASP, added: “Lou has done an amazing job.
“She’s very eloquent and very well networked, so she’s done an awful lot of work talking about CLASP.
“She understands us and our members, and has really worked hard to get engaged with them which has made a big big difference.
“The money is great because it’s unrestricted, which means we can spend it on what we like. And when I say that for us, our core costs are very expensive
“Everything we do has costs, and we send lots of things out by post. So whilst I’d like to think we might do a little thing special with it, the majority will just get absorbed in our work, our daily running costs.
“I always feel a bit sad when I say it’s a lovely lot of money, but we’re not going to buy a statue or anything with it.
“It’s lovely because it’s very rare to get unrestricted funding these days.”
The amount was topped up to the £7,500 mark by mayoral attendant David Dunham, who added a £20 note at the presentation.
