A TACKLING Poverty Grant from Wokingham United Charities of £4,500 will help fund support workers at a borough charity to deliver multiple projects helping ex offenders to rebuild their lives.
The Wokingham based charity, Renova Trust, is a Christian faith-based organisation providing supported housing to formerly homeless or insecurely housed people and ex-offenders.
Residents are helped by a mentor to build a positive friendship network and practical support, managed through a key-worker.
Tess Osunkoya CEO of Renova Trust, said: “We are so pleased to receive a grant from Wokingham United Charities through their partner Berkshire Community Foundation.
“This grant will be so helpful, enabling us to continue supporting those in Wokingham who are struggling with homelessness.
“The grant will ensure that they have the necessary support to get their lives back on track.”
Renova’s holistic service provides them with a personal mentor, with practical support coordinated through a keyworker, and trained counselling/psychotherapy support.
Residents learn to address their difficulties, and receive training/life skills to help them transition back into independent living.
WUC’s award will help fund support workers to come alongside male residents with multiple difficulties, including: ex-offenders, adults with addiction issues, adults with mental health needs, adults who are homeless, and adults with complex needs.
Wokingham United Charities is a grant-giving body dedicated to alleviating poverty and improving the lives of people in the borough.
It also provides accommodation for older people in need at its Westende Almshouses on London Road.
Its Essential Item, Relief In Need, and Tackling Poverty grants support charities serving people experiencing hardship, while its Brighter Futures Fund enables disadvantaged young people to participate in extracurricular activities.
