Plans have been approved that will see the formalisation of 24 existing parking bays at St Bartholomew’s Church in Arborfield.
A total of 26 representations were received during the consultation period, with 7 against the plans and 19 supportive of the application.
Comments in support of the plans cited how the provision of car parking in a manner sympathetic to the environment will alleviate parking congestion along Church Lane, which will be a safety improvement
Another commented how the car park would allow children and the elderly to be dropped off, and for cars to be parked safely – reducing the need to park on the road.
One oi those against the plan claimed the car park is not necessary, and is out of keeping with the nature of Church Lane.
“At least when the cars are parked on the lane, it slows the extra traffic.”
The approval, subject to a number of conditions, was granted by council officers on June 17.
