Reading FC legend Shane Long has admitted that Charlie Savage leaving the club would be a ‘big loss’ as transfer speculation continues.
Several clubs are said to be interested in the Welsh international, including Championship sides Cardiff City and Lincoln City among others.
Savage has been a crucial player for the Royals since joining on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2023, but now only has one year left on his current deal, which could lead to Reading cashing in on the player this summer. It is also believed that Man United have a significant sell on clause if Savage is to depart Reading.
Shane Long, speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest football odds, said: “I never played with Charlie, but I’ve watched him a lot. He’s an exciting player to watch, he carries the ball forward well and scores some unbelievable goals as well, which is a nice trait to have.
“He has been brilliant in midfield with Lewis Wing this year at Reading, and I’m not surprised that teams are coming in to snap him up.
“It will be a big loss for Reading, but if you have players like that in your team and you don’t get promoted, you have to expect that other teams are going to come along and snap them up.
“Having said that, it’s not easy going on to Cardiff, just getting promoted. It’s going to be a tough season for them, but I’m sure with his goals and assists, he’ll be valuable.
“He’s one of these players that flies around the field and works hard. While he’s not strong and dominant in that way, he’s constantly involved and does a good job for the team as a whole. So, he’s a good addition for Cardiff.”
