2022 Candidates

Caroline Hill, Labour

Alistair Neal, Lib Dem

I’ve lived in Earley for 21 years and before that in Reading. I am an Earley Town Councillor for St Nicolas ward and I work in the IT industry. I’m interested in preserving our green spaces, improving the local walking and cycling infrastructure and helping Earley to play its part in fighting the climate emergency.

Martyn Washbourne, Conservatives

Description automatically generated with low confidence

I moved here in 1998 to study at Reading University and I liked the area so much I have lived here ever since. Within ten minutes walk of Asda for most of that time!

After completing my PhD in Air Pollution I embarked on a career in transport planning and have worked as an analyst and consultant for councils and companies.

I’m passionate about making trains and buses more accessible, reliable, and economically attractive to encourage more people to leave their car at home saving money and reducing congestion. I regularly choose to use the bus as a greener and cheaper mode of transport.

Luckily, I often work from home, which means I can enjoy our beautiful area or tend my garden. I’m an active member of Shinfield Players Theatre, you may have seen me in Snow White back in January. As a keen swimmer, I enjoy clocking up lengths at Loddon Valley and the new Bulmershe Leisure Centre.

Now you know more about me, I’d like to hear from you. I have enjoyed many doorstep discussions and hope to meet you soon. However, don’t wait for my knock! Please contact me to share your views and if you see me out and about, even in Asda or at a bus stop, please say hello and have a chat.

I want to work with Cllr Pauline Jorgensen to ensure Hillside continues to be a great place to live. With your support, I can do that.
