I COME from the Philippines and previously worked in Doha for several years.
I realised I wanted to settle down and have a family of my own, and met my husband online.
I chose to use a dating App, but I was initially hesitant – it’s hard to know how genuine someone is in that setting.
We met online for 20 months, talking and getting to know each other, and then when Covid restrictions loosened, he booked his ticket to Doha.
Together, we were both able to be genuine, and eventually we married.
Job opportunities brought us to the UK – a big sacrifice for me because Doha was my second home.
But I guess God has always had plans for me.
Before arriving, I’d researched churches and chose Kings Church, intending not only to attend but to serve.
It was gratifying to find my father-in-law attended the same church.
Our biggest challenges have been securing a mortgage and finding work, but after many setbacks, I finally got an NHS job I desired.
Faith got me through that tough time.
For me, my faith is very important.
Difficult and painful things have happened, but I’ve seen God’s power move in my life.
Sometimes I cry of course, but I’m not afraid of being alone because I know God is always with me, and even though things can hurt, his presence makes me stronger.
Mae Kind writes from Kings Church, which meets on Sundays at 10.30am.
