The Beat the Street challenge taking place across Wokingham and Woodley, Twyford, Wargrave and Easthampstead has entered its Go Active themed week to encourage participants to find new activities and sports to try out.
The idea is that people will find something they might not have tried before, to help them continue to keep up their new active habits after the Beat the Street competition comes to an end on Wednesday, July 17, and to explore the sports and leisure options on offer.
More than 13,550 people have signed up to play the Beat the Street Wokingham game, and participants are about to clock up 100,000 miles through walking, cycling, wheeling, running and scooting.
Anyone of any age is invited to take part, and you can still get involved now by picking up a card from one of the distribution points on www.beatthestreet.me/wokingham. Players over the age of 13 can download the free Beat the Street app.
Teams of all varieties, including schools, community groups and workplaces, have been battling it out for the past several weeks across the average, and total points, leaderboards to take home prizes of vouchers for books.
There are also prizes for individuals and ‘lucky spot’ prizes just for taking part.
As of Wednesday lunchtime (June 26), Floreat Montague Park primary school leads the total points leaderboard, with The Hawthorns in second place and St Teresa’s primary school in third.
On the average points leaderboard, Active4Health is in first place with AcornDrive2024 in second and Southlake Unofficial in third.
Beat the Street is being delivered by Intelligent Health in partnership with My Journey, and is funded by Wokingham Borough Council and Defra.
Beat the Street was created by GP Dr William Bird to encourage people to explore their local areas and to make exercise fun.
More than 1.8 million people have played Beat the Street so far, in more than 120 locations across the UK.
